Percussionist David J. Spatola was good enough to sit in on today’s public practice in Highland Park. David played mostly djembe and tambourine, and concentrated on getting a feel for our music. The songs Matt and I have been rehearsing sound quite different when we have a beat to follow, and it was all very refreshing! Unsurprisingly, the role of the guitarist changes quite a bit with someone else carrying the beat.
David is a pianist, vocalist, and DJ. Today’s rehearsal has given us some new ideas on old material, and we’re looking forward to playing with him again soon. He has a site: David J. Spatola, Pianist, Vocalist, and DJ. (Warning: His site has backing music.)
I’m unable to go to rehearsal next week, but David and Matt will be at Nighthawk next week on Wednesday for the weekly noon rehearsal.
